Do you see a big Sunni Shia divide in your day to day life. I have an acquaintance who lives in Saudi Arabia and she’s super anti-Shia and I think it’s weird (but I can get it if I think about the catholic Protestant divine)

Yes, I support hummus. As long as it’s authentic or even adjacent to authentic hummus I’ll be happy. However chocolate hummus is an abomination and anyone who eats it should feel ashamed

Hummus at its core is a chickpea dish with olive oil, garlic, other herbs, etc. it’s supposed to be hearty and full of flavor and eaten with piping hot pita bread, not a dessert to eat with vegetables

I don’t see it much in my day to day life bc ngl as someone living in Shreveport I barely see Muslims outside of the mosque (I spent most of my time either in the hospital or at my apartment). I have acquaintances who are Shia and there’s no huge difference to me, if they claim to be Muslim and act like a Muslim then to me they’re Muslim

AML, blood cancers are horrible but I’m not a fan of AML. All cancers are bad in that you shouldn’t have them, some cancers aren’t gonna kill you any faster than if you didn’t have them, and a lot suck

Color - dark green (idk why it’s just soothing to the eye and I think I look good in it) Number - idk I don’t really have a favorite number. I used to be #32 when I played baseball. 911 is a close second (NOT BECAUSE OF THE TWIN TOWERS) but bc it’s an aspirational goal of mine to one day drive and maybe own a Porsche 911

We have a LOT of them and a LOT of it comes down to misappropriation of funds for shady deals and shell companies used to financially or otherwise benefit the US economically or politically. That being said we have it better than a lot of other countries too

Anonymous replying to -> #5 1d

Oh lmao 1. I don’t want to legalize drugs necessarily bc it becomes a public safety issue, but decriminalizing them to my understanding would be better 2. If a gay person wants to marry a gay person then that’s their choice, my only “problem” with it is if they insist different religious leaders ordain the marriage if it’s against the faith 3. Gun control is iffy, bad people are gonna find guns if they’re legal or not, but I def think safety courses or smth should be mandatory

I feel like my faith does guide my political opinions because I try to live in the way God would want me to, and part of that is being compassionate and caring for my fellow humans. There’s a saying by the prophet that (and I’m paraphrasing here) whoever saves a life it’s like he saved all of humanity and whoever ends a life it’s like he ended all of humanity. That’s partly why I’m in medical school too

Other than that do u have a position on abortion and trans people eg should they play in separate sports, should children be allowed to transition or only transition socially (ie without medical interventions), and do you lean towards a political party on average? For example do you agree more democrat or republican or somewhere in the center or a third party? (just on political and economic issues on average, you don’t have to agree with everything a politician does personally, so i won’t judg)

1. Up to a certain point and in cases of maternal/fetal endangerment I think abortion should be allowed 2. Lowkey they should make a trans athlete league, but it is undeniable the physiological differences of having been born with XX or XY and its effects on muscle mass, bone density, center of gravity, etc 3. Children shouldn’t be allowed to transition for the same reasons we don’t let them vote, drink, smoke, (mostly) drive, etc. their brains aren’t fully formed TO BE CONTINUED

3 pt 2. Their brains aren’t fully formed and they could be going through a phase. I remember myself as a child having ideas of what I wanted to do/be change literally day by day, but if it’s a persistent thought that’s corroborated by medical professionals and it’s a tangible detriment to their mental health and continued state of being alive I think puberty blockers and some version of social transitioning may be warranted 4. Uhhh probably democrat? Maybe 3rd but it’s all the same puppets

Idk man I just like to live and let live. Treat others how I’d want to be treated, and do the least amount of harm to the least amount of people. I hope I’m doing right by God and end of the day He will be the one to judge, plus end of the day regardless of what you do or don’t believe in we’re all humans, we all came out of the same process, we’re all gonna die, and most of us will be forgotten within 100 years. Why make life harder for others when it’s already hard as is?

Next question, I hope this isn’t too offensive, but were you born in the US or are you originally from another country and if so, which one? To be clear i wasn’t born in the US so either way I‘m not judging lol. I‘m just curious bcs I feel like there’s often big cultural differences between US born Muslims and Muslims from eh the Middle East or Asia. Do you feel like where you were born or where you grew up kind of impacts your faith & do you see cultural differences between you and other Muslim

I have complicated feelings on drugs. I also feel like decriminalizazkon is better, just for more compassionate care for addicts, but I hate that drug use is so normalized. Addiction is terrifying and I wish people were more careful with these substances, including alcohol. Personally, my goal is to never use drugs or drink. I just don’t want to get into it.

No offense taken. I was born in the US, but my parents are from Pakistan. I learned a lot of Islam from them and from my schooling, and while I see some differences (basically just schools of thought regarding specific rulings, processes, etc) and I do see some geographic differences, many east and southeast Asians follow a specific school of thought while Arabs follow a different one, etc. End of the day though we’re all praying to the same God hoping we’re doing right by what He commands.

I‘m bisexual so I support gay marriage. I don’t think a religious person should be forced to ordain the marriage if it goes against their faith. For marriage, I think the most important part are the legal benefits you get from it. So as long as gay ppl can get those I‘m fine since that way it isn’t discriminatory. I would never want to force a pastor or imam to sign off on a marriage they don’t want to though.

Gun control is complicated. We do have the second amendment and I believe it is important to allow ppl the means to defend themselves. At the same time, gun violence is a huge problem, and more regulations on guns could help with that. I honestly feel like I understand both sides, I wish there was a solution that both reduced gun violence and allowed for ppls constitutional rights to be maintained.

For abortion I‘m pretty pro life lol, which ik is very controversial on YikYak but here goes 😬 my reasoning is, we know that conception creates a new organism, right? So a human zygote is alive, and they’re the same species as their parents. Aka a human being. I think as a society for us to be consistent on human rights we should protect all human life, including prenatally. Thus, I oppose legal abortion and other procedures that intentionally kill it, with exceptions for mothers life

We basically 100% align on trans issues. For political parties is difficult bcs like i said I’m pro life, but I like a lot of democratic economic policies. Honestly it depends on the politician for me. If a politician is upright and authentic then I support them more, even if we don’t agree on all issues. I support eg el Sayed 100% more than Mike Rogers even though i don’t agree with el Sayed on a lot, he seems like a very honest and competent person and Mike Rogers is a massive sleazebag
