To different groups btw, the former aren’t really ethnically “Irish” and they weren’t persecuted in North America, they were descendants of Scottish and English settlers to Northern Ireland as many Gaelic Irish were drove out of the region and others dispossessed of property and land. A few generations later they settled over to North America.
