Utah was founded as a New Zion and Mormons consider themselves to be Israelites (they have a ceremony that assigns them their tribe of Israel). If anything, Israel is a copy of Utah.

Salt Lake City was founded due to how much it mirrored Jerusalem. A salt lake that was fed by a freshwater river. The settlers even named that river Jordan after the one in Jerusalem.
