I’m disappointed that all of us either forgot or no longer talk about China’s genocide against Uyghur Muslims.

I think that it’s important to talk about, but that a lot of people misrepresent it. Those who tend to be more pro-China will dismiss it as being nothing, whereas a lot of westerners I think misuse the word genocide to a degree.

Ah yes, the “genocide” only recognized by the US state department, the same one which refuses to recognize the actual genocide of Palestinians

I think it can most accurately be described as a form of cultural genocide, paired with mass internments. It does not appear that China is actually killing Uyghurs en masse, as the word genocide usually invokes. Rather it is pursuing an intensive assimilatory policy, intended to destroy the Uyghur separatist movement.

The Islamic extremists that the Chinese government is focusing on combatting are bad. Forced assimilation and arbitrary internment is also bad. Uyghur families aren’t fleeing to Turkey over nothing. But I do think it’s accurate to say that the United states is over-focusing on this while ignoring other more severe forms of genocide and ethnic cleansing, where actual massacres are occurring.
