I didn’t say shit about being intellectually superior, but this is probably a pretty good example. This sort of condescension is what people are talking about when they call someone a Reddit atheist.

I’m not sure where you see this. Personally I’d call myself more agnostic than atheist and I have no problem with atheist takes, I share many of them myself. My problem comes in when those takes are presented with the connotation of “I am superior for having this take”

Literally this post was prompted by a death threat for simply disagreeing about the existence of god, followed by “Reddit atheist”. I get you might not see it, but “Reddit atheist” is thrown at even the most genuine and respectful atheists

Listen, I always try not to be condescending, but you have to realize that a lot of atheists are because of the position religion puts them in. They are told to worship a monstrous god with no reasonable evidence for its existence over any other god concept, you are gonna get people who will condescend towards you lol.

Okay yeah death threats and calling someone a reddit atheist when they’re respectful isn’t a good thing at all, obviously. Personally I think someone who’s a good example of an antitheist while still being pretty respectful and lighthearted is Forrest Valkai on youtube and tik tok

I’ve been watching him basically since he made his youtube debut, it’s very informative but I’m sure a lot goes over my head since my degree is in social studies rather than biology lol. I appreciate that he makes distinctions between different religious people, i.e. calling out young earth creationists specifically while acknowledging that there are religious people who don’t believe that claptrap.
