this is true but its also like people say, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar or whatever. it’s fucked up and you shouldnt have to “be polite” when discussing genocide, but then you can’t really expect people to listen if you’re not

You’re missing the point I think. The fact that she was talking about genocide at all was what was considered impolite. Also I know the point you’re trying to make but you also can’t expect marginalized people to make their messaging more palatable for the oppressors

i don’t think i’m missing the point i think we just disagree. my point is you have choices in how you discuss things. because what does bringing up the genocide in this way acheive? most people dont want to hear about mass tragedies at the dinner table, they’re not going to listen to you if you bring it up. you can’t spread awareness if people don’t care what you have to say

i agree with you and op that it shouldn’t be this way and no one should have to make their messaging more palatable to be taken seriously. but then you can’t expect the people you’re talking to to listen and understand if you’re not willing to speak their language.
