sex and gender are different things btw gender is a social construct sex is physiological this isn’t debatable it’s literally objectively true

we don’t call female humans lionesses because they aren’t lions. we do call female humans female because they’re female, the same way we call female lions female because they’re female. because they have XX chromosomes and have female reproductive organs. not because they put on a dress 💀

Animals naturally abide by their gender roles without any “societal pressure”. Gender roles are natural and occur due to their biological sex.

this is the problem. yall are trying to give animals human traits. animals do not have gender because they do not have socially constructed civilizations that would require gender based roles to divide up labor. i’m speaking from a purely scientific viewpoint as someone who is pursuing a degree in Biology and has been pursuing this degree for the past 3 years.

You keep using the term gender role and I don't think you know what it means. It has nothing to do with biology.

the scientific viewpoint is gender is not something that exists physiologically or biologically. we use the word SEX to refer to PHYSICAL reproductive organs. biologists don’t study gender because it is socially constructed and cannot be measured on a physical scale. if you don’t believe me, a quick google search can help you since this is the accepted consensus.

Do you understand the difference between biological traits and societal norms?

upvote 5 downvote

Yes. What is the difference between the way an animal acts naturally in its social group, and the way humans act naturally in their social group? What is the difference between a female lion performing a different job than a male lion, and a female human performing a different job than a male human?

upvote -1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #6 12w

Sex-typical behaviors evolved by natural selection to maximize reproductive success. Gender roles are not biologically based and are largely a product of one's society and culture.

upvote 2 downvote
user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #6 12w

because these roles for animals serve a purpose that increases their chances of survival for both them, and their offspring. does a woman HAVE to stay at home and fulfill domestic duties in order to survive? no. women can work a job (a previous gendered social norm was the idea that women couldn’t work, couldn’t vote, couldn’t handle their own money, etc) and continue to survive and ensure the survival of her kids. that’s the difference.

upvote 3 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> thefuckingfbi 12w

You went into specifics at the end, but okay; Principally the difference is survival necessity yes? So then if our survival is not dependent on women staying home or women having jobs, by what metric are we determining which of those things is right or wrong?

upvote -1 downvote
user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #6 12w

yes i was giving an example. we aren’t determining if it’s right or wrong. there’s nothing wrong with a woman who wants to only fulfill domestic duties. just like there isn’t anything wrong with a woman who doesn’t want to do that. it isn’t about “right and wrong” anyway. its just objective fact that animals do not have gender roles and humans do. we weren’t determining whether gender roles vs. sexual roles were inherently good or bad, we were explaining the distinction between them.

upvote 2 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> thefuckingfbi 12w

Okay, I would agree with you by that definition, that there aren’t gender roles in nature. But I think the term is useless. The purpose of evolutionary gender roles was survival necessity, it stands to reason that gender roles would evolve in a society where survival is not a concern. These social roles would evolve from the survival roles, and adapt the traits each sex had developed for survival to serve a new purpose. You’re assuming we evolved differently to survive but the same in society

I’m showing u that what yall deem as “not normal” or “goes against evolution” can be found in many other species. Animals, do not have gendered roles as per my examples, the act of breeding isn’t gendered because 1.non human animals don’t have gender and 2.the act of breeding to produce offspring is evolutionary as it keeps a species going. Not because they’re attracted to the opposite sex like ur trying to state💀
