… if you need the Dems’ votes for it to pass, you need to negotiate with the Dems to *compromise* on a bill that everyone can vote for. That’s what bipartisan systems of government entail. Republicans are refusing to make concessions and demanding Dems vote for the bill as-is. The Dems are saying “no negotiation, no compromises, no votes from us.” This makes the shutdown - believe it or not - the Republican’s fault, because they are completely failing to engage in good faith governance.
