The avg costs of non “luxury” items is usually weighed down by mass production. Think apparel. You can go to amazon, shein, mall shops, etc and find clothing for significantly cheaper. At the expense of quality and durability. Jewelry might be similar, hair accessories, fragrances. It’s less that people save for a luxury item (sterling silver, designer perfumes, well-made clothes) and more that we intrinsically lean towards buying cheaper items (nickel/gold plated, “body sprays,” fast fashion).

Yeah. Technically places like shein have everything cheaper if you want shit everything but you’re right. People used to care about quality more

I was just focusing on the 9 years and I don’t think it existed 9 years ago and things like that weren’t as popular and widespread but could be wrong

For products that are “exclusive” or brands that are “luxury,” clothes are incredibly overpriced imo, but not always poor quality. A good sweatshirt that costs 80 bucks CAN last for 30 years if you take good care of it. The brandy melville crop top? Not so sure.
