In a direct response to the Texas Republican gerrymandering, Gavin Newsom is proposing for a redrawing of California’s electoral map in hopes to gain five Democratic seats. To do this, Proposition 50 is a ballot measure to get rid of the independent body that draws the district maps for California and replace it with partisan officials. Arnold Schwarzenegger established this independent body in 2008 to serve as a model for the country against gerrymandering and unfair elections.

Supporters of Prop 50 say it’s necessary in order to keep Trump’s excessive power in check, while critics worry that it sets the tone for more unfair elections.

yea I see both sides, but personally, i'm tired of the democrats playing nice AND the people are voting on this. if the people weren't voting then maybe my opinion would be different. republicans do it without caring, newsom is at least asking if it's ok to do it because he knows he represents the people and what they want could easily be changed in the future, but right now, go for it because republicans don't care and won't care
