I mean I think they’re talked about differently because in many of those countries we (the cia) worked hard to undermine secular leaders and propped up Islamist extremists. So we’re sort of to blame for their lack of progressiveness. Also it’s not purely about religious beliefs, it’s mostly corrupt misogynists who just want to leverage religion for power like the American right does
