Not denying there’s real ignorance about Islam, and there needs to be a distinction between salafists and extremists and normal Muslims. That being said, this whole “islamaphobia is just as bad as terrorism” thing is just a really bad idea - and it’s playing out in the UK and Europe right now with the far right surging because of stuff like this.
Islamophobia is NOT as bad as terrorism lmao once again I was directly countering your point about them only getting name called or punched, and was stating that it is a genuine problem in this country specifically. There are terrorist acts carried out against Muslims in this country but not to the scale of 9/11 (they’ll be called hate crimes or mental illness but what else do you can going and shooting up a mosque) but to equate “normal” Islamophobia to terrorism was not my point
Yes, I think we largely agree. all I object to is people’s insistence that 9/11 must be mentioned in the same breath of how bad islamaphobia is or others who straight up will say that Muslims suffered more than those who died. What it does is it makes discussion of real things, like the rape gangs in Britain, conflated with islamaphobia - so that you cannot discuss a very real crime without sounding islamaphobic.
