This will kill hundreds of trans children. Republicans love dead children and will celebrate when the youth trans suicide rate jumps because of this

Does this include the thousands of annual genital surgeries that doctors perform on intersex children to make their genitalia appear like the a cis man’s or a cis woman’s genitalia?

This is stupid. It doesn’t ban just surgeries, which are rarely performed on minors anyway, it bans a lot more than that like HRT. And possibly puberty blockers, which are entirely reversible by, like, not taking them?

What do you think gender affirming care is? Surgeries are rarely performed on minors anyway- mostly this bans HRT and possibly puberty blockers.

aaaaaand there’s the conspiracy theorist talking, I’m out. …you know puberty blockers are entirely reversible, right? You just stop taking them. This whole thing is based on what people think are the “vibes” of trans healthcare rather than what is proven to be safe, effective, and the best option. The only remotely scientific evidence most anti trans activists cite is the Cass review, which has so many major problems I’d be hard pressed to call it “scientific evidence” at all.

bro advocating for conversion therapy over medicine thinks we should let children be children I literally tracked down that MCRI page, then found the research they were linking to about possible side effects- which is about gender affirming care and discussed GNRHA positively, recommending its use and that “evidence base is still emerging… is not a valid reason to withhold treatment”. I think if you want to make arguments, you should consider the facts more thoroughly before arguing.

And considering trans healthcare has an insanely low regret rate, I highly doubt it’s just a phase and you sound bigoted as hell.

“The whole point of science is to question everything” When the answer to that question is pretty much the same across hundreds or even thousands of studies- you kind of have to accept that answer, or you’re just remaining willfully blind. Studies aren’t infallible- but that’s why we have repetition. If one study doesn’t recommend the use of so and so but ten do? If you don’t agree with that, I welcome you to go make a room temperature superconductor based on that retracted paper.

you literally advocated for therapy over medicine already. I’d love to know how you feel about antidepressants.

It’s the medical guideline to use hormones to resolve gender dysphoria. It is the clinically proven best practice. For decades!! There is a fundamental neurobiological difference in trans people that make their brains structure more like the gender they identify most with as well as differences that are inconsistent with male and female neuroanatomy regardless of which sex hormone they have. You saying you have complicated feelings about the idea of trans people does not change the medical facts

Why should the government get a say in what medical experts recommend for treatment done with full consent of everyone involved. Did you know that there are 1000s of genital surgeries performed on intersex infants every year without their consent? Or did you know that over 90% of cosmetic surgeries performed on minors are modifying the breasts or nose for cis teenagers? You’re taking away a struggling 16 year olds HRT via government overreach to solve a nonissue while ignoring some real issues

Why is it inhumane? Your objection is not based upon the fact that in certain rare cases puberty blockers is the best treatment for gender identity disorder and has a very long and rigorous screening process to even be considered for that, also why are we tap dancing around the intersex surgeries and the sheer amount of cis teens getting cosmetic surgeries? It seems like you’re not interested in considering medical facts.

It’s comes from public research publicly available. Let medical experts consult with the family and the literature to come to a best course of action. Treatment of trans minors is recorded in the APA guidelines because things like gender identity disorder often has a dysphoria components and has comorbidities with suicidal depression. The decision on treatment is based upon research about the risk of potential harms and improvements and the family’s decision. There is a very extensive procedure.

The risk doesn’t outweigh the benefits. I don’t think you’ve ever talked to a trans person about this. Gender affirming therapy saves hundreds or thousands of lives but you’re trying to throw it all away in the name of the small percentage of people who are mistaken. And let me be clear, knowing many trans people, having been able to go on hormones as a child would make their lives now much better because they would look much more like how they feel.

i’ll say this anytime this convo comes up on here. i knew i was trans since i was 11, hell maybe even earlier if i had the words for it. i have also been severely depressed, developed anorexia, and been to therapy on and off since i was 12 and was suicidal for most of that time. no matter what i did, either therapy or psych meds nothing really helped. i finally went on hrt at 20 and it changed my life for the better.

i wholeheartedly believe i would not have suffered as much as a teen if i had access to hrt and if adults actually listened to ME about what I wanted. minors are not dumb and trans minors know a hell of a lot more about themselves than any adult likes to think.

My medications are doing far more than therapy alone ever did. I went from highly likely to offing myself to being finally happy and enjoying life, without my little estrogen pill and Zoloft I wouldn’t be here
