This might be a hot take, but I think free and available healthcare, especially mental healthcare, will stop more violent crime than any gun law or increased police presence ever will.

I don’t believe that either, however I do believe that having free mental healthcare will stop more crime. Not all crime, just more of it. Particularly the more heinous and violent kinds.

yep, the root cause of crime in many cases is poverty, but people who are mentally ill are more likely to be put in custody because the police are pieces of shit who don’t understand what mental illness is

Even that I’d say is a bit misleading, not all crimes are financial in nature or done because of financial status, for example most white collar criminals are doing and have been doing just fine in their life.

if you only see crime as embezzlement, money laundering, tax evasion, etc. crimes like theft, drug use, violent crimes, prostution (which leaves those practicing vulnerable to sex trafficking) are proven to decline if poverty is taken out of the equation
