Hoffman was charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony. According to a prosecutor’s court filing, the victim, a friend of Hoffman’s son, told investigators the abuse began when he was about 6 years old. Paxton’s office offered him a deal: plead guilty to two misdemeanors, serve a single day in jail, and stay off the sex offender registry. Hoffman’s lawyer also represented a Paxton donor who gave $25,000 in support of the attorney general
