I’m genuinely curious: to all the progressives/leftists, why do so many of you seem to think Charlie Kirk was “far-right” or a “Christian nationalist”? He wasn’t really any of those things, but now some of the people who want to take his place are…

to claim christianity is “irreplaceable” while labeling islam, atheism, and other religions as “works of the devil” is christian nationalism.

So do you have another label for people who want to make Christianity the state religion? We’re not presently an explicitly Christian state, and I’ve never seen anything Charlie Kirk said that suggests he thought we should be, but I see other people on the right who do very much support that…

“one of the reasons we’re living through a constitutional crisis is that we no longer have a Christian nation, but we have a Christian form of government, and they’re incompatible. you cannot have liberty without a christian population” “this is a christian state. i’d like to see it stay that way” - charlie kirk 2024

another label for that is a theocracy, which goes against our freedom of religion. all forms of nationalism are oppressive.

also literally in that screenshot “we must defend the christian heritage and institutions that gave birth to america” sounds a lot like he’s saying america is a christian state

Thanks for that. I ask because it feels like people like Nick Fuentes are way further right than Charlie Kirk ever was, but them both described in almost exactly the same way.

Well so, I don’t know that I’d say it’s Christian nationalism to acknowledge that our system of government and its ideals were definitely influenced by Christianity or to say just as a statement of fact that we are a majority Christian nation.

it’s not that he was saying that, he was saying other religions are evil and that the only way for us to have a peaceful society is for everyone to be christian. THAT is christian nationalism

i mean he was pretty open about not wanting separation of church and state. like he acknowledged being a christian nationalist
