State control of the means of production sounds cool in the abstract but falls apart the second you understand what a market signal is and why signals are necessary. Every communist country has failed on supply chain issues for precisely that reason.

True communism will only be possible when we reach post-scarcity. So basically Star Trek

It is also why Cuba has given up the gimmick and moved towards unprecedented privatization. Private control of the means is necessary and can be used to create strong welfare states with incredibly high quality of life (see the Nordics).

we already live post-scarcity, the scarcity that exists today is artificial

There’s only finite resources of certain things our species needs. We don’t have unlimited trees for houses unlimited gold for electronics etc. we either stop our march thru history by staying still or we find some way to make everything abundant

the Earth is pretty great at regenerating its resources, like trees. we either halt most of the waste brought forward by a capitalist mode of production, or gradually perish in the extinction event it has left in its wake. you’re right, if the entire globe consumed at the rate of Americans, we’d need 9 planets to sustain us all. fortunately, we can alter human behavior, some of us just choose not to

people suggest sustainable living and morons act like we’re suggesting living primitive lives. in reality, Apple does not need to release 5 models of iPhone each year. maybe if we cut back the capitalist bloat there would be plenty more to go around

The chase for infinite profits on a finite world will kill us all tbh

that’s why the people chasing infinite profit need to be removed from power

Why do you think we couldn’t be living in a post scarcity world rn? You don’t think some theoretical perfect level of global cooperation could result in that today?
