What’s the biggest societal problem, that the federal government has assumed the responsibility for feeding children, that “a third of babies receive WIC benefits” in some states, or that this is somehow NOT essential-spending exempt from the shutdown?

The last one isn’t a societal problem, that’s a problem with priorities. I’m fairly sure SNAP is still fine during the shutdown though, so this is odd

Ah wait I see now. It’s because money actually can’t be held up for SNAP or WIC. It’s going to retailers and states. Essential stuff during the shutdown is usually just running because the government is telling them to work without a paycheck, and promising to pay them when it reopens
