He was responsible for Libya opening itself up to the world in the early 2000s (I.e. getting its sanctions lifted) + using the funds nationalized from the country’s oil reserves to improve the quality of life for its citizens. He made healthcare and education free, subsidized housing, made his people some of the wealthiest in Africa by raising the per capita income of Libyans, and he resisted imperialist efforts by Western powers. Those are off the top of my head. There’s a lot to admire there.
Sure, but unfortunately, that’s par for the course. The so-called “good guys” of the world could be accused of many of the same things as him. It’s also a matter of perspective and where you are in the world at what time. Just ask the citizens of Latin and South American governments who the CIA has instilled decades upon decades of instability and unrest within the countries of.
My brother state sponsored terrorism and massacres should not be just thrown to the side, he could have solved world hunger but that doesn’t mean he’s a good guy or deserves an apology, it means he solved world hunger and was responsible for overall effecting hundreds of thousands of lives. The mf took responsibility for pan am flight 103
I’m not gonna defend that stuff. But also, let’s not overlook it as if that’s only something his government is/was responsible for. I merely aim to point out the hypocrisy that exists between what Western media presents us with versus how the people of those days may have actually benefited. One side of the story cannot be taken as the sole truth.
