We talking about Mamdani who half his family had to flee the religious nationalist BJP bc of their genocide against Indian Muslims?
This night has proven to me that as an Indian American I have no place in the new democratic party. From people like Bernie siding with maga racists in hating on Indian immigrants, to electing zohran mamdani, a known anti hindu politician, I’m done.

Not to downplay their persecution but let's not undermine the severity of the term genocide

Genocide also covers cultural eradication which India did to the Muslim in that region of India

Genocide refers specifically to a measured attempt to exterminate a group. We can condemn discrimination and hate crimes without equating it to the carnage we've seen in Gaza.

He literally sided with them in hating on Indian immigrants a while back. Iirc Nick Fuentes embraced what he had to say too

This is the U.N definition of genocide which under clause 1 of article 2 of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. From the U.N Indian government deliberately carried how intent to in part destroy a religious group inside their national borders.

I don’t want to endlessly argue over this point. If you can’t see the difference between what's happened in India and tens of thousands of Palestinian children being murdered and 60% of Gaza's buildings being destroyed then there's no point in talking to you further. These terms matter and we can’t just throw them around, that’s why the genocide ruling at the ICJ was so important.

Calling a genocide a genocide doesn’t downplay a different genocide.

There can be one than one on going genocide? We shouldn’t just not apply the term when it fits the scenario. I’m not one to use the term lightly but the situation to Indians Muslim population is actually rlly fucked and insane if you look into it. It’s one of those things like the Chinese genocide of its ethnic minorities which doesn’t get talk about as much.

It’s like saying we shouldn’t downplay the Holocaust by saying the Japanese didn’t try to commit a genocide against the ppl of Asia during ww2.

The problem is that it doesn’t. There's absolutely widespread discrimination and occasional communal violence, as with Black people in the American South in the 20th century, but no wide-scale massacres of entire communities that we see in every other genocide. To put it in the same category as Gaza, Rwanda, or the Holocaust waters down the term.

Unlike maga Bernie’s opposition doesn’t come from the fact they are Indian. It comes from the principle idea where business owners will exploit that of workers coming over to America desperate for a job and they are willing to be payed less cause the salaries from their home countries aren’t as much. Meaning greedy corporations will exploit the fact of these high intellectual ppl are willing to work for less money.

Theirs certain places in India where they have done this. And gotten horrific results from it bc of their effectiveness.

He wants the practices of business exploitation of all workers to stop. Not just to give Americans basically a DEI easier time to get hired. Which for some reason maga loves

I’ve just had it with the left treating us like white people and the right treating us like brown people. We get all the downsides of being white and none of the privilege of being white

A lot of leftists are anti-Indian and anti-Hindu, being a leftist doesn’t make you immune to the effects of capitalism nor does it make you a good person. If no one is free until we’re all free, that right should be extended to Indians, Hindus, Persians, East Asians, and others who don’t fit the criteria of a perfect victim. The model minority myth is trash and has contributed to racism

There are literally regular pogroms against Muslims in India. Go look at the Gujarat Riots and their fallout and tell me that’s not genocide. This is not the hill to die on.

It’s not genocide. Any honest genocide scholar would probably tell you the same. In terms of casualties, the Gujarat riots were comparable to October 7th or the recent Alawite murders in Syria. Were those also genocides? You might think this is making excuses for disgusting Hindu nationalists, but using these terms properly is way more important than any of you people think.

This is true and I don’t understand anyone who would be anti Indian or anti Hindu. But what I am against is religious nationalism. Not saying Hinduism is inherently nationalist. But the weaponize of it by the BJP and other groups is horrifying. And Mamdani doesn’t seem to hate Hindus rather than modi and the Hindu nationalists who he believes wronged his family if you watch the interview him and brad lander did.
