I have an issue with “fake Christians” no true Scotsman fallacy. They are Christians, they are the same Christians as an Episcopalian, just bc you want to feel better about your religion doesn’t mean you should fund excuses to your own religion. They’re all the same. If you don’t want to be a “bad christian” you should really understand your religion and hold yourself accountable to the problems your religion causes. Like, men and white people can’t excuse themselves from rape culture or racism
A wife shall follow her husband as he follows Christ and be willing to die for her + 8 other things is quite different from backhanding your wife when she says something you don’t like. You’re free to tell me where the bible says anything about taking sex slaves as conquest because the only thing I read remotely like that, God put to death a bunch of Israelites who had sex with hookers after the initial conquest after they contracted a plague from doing it.
Numbers 31; Moses commands the slaughter of the Medianites, the Israelites do that and the text specifically lays out in Num 31:18 NIV “Only the young girls who are virgins may live; you may keep them for yourselves” also, important note, the law regarded women as property, if any of the men raped the girls they would be bound to marriage with the man FOREVER (Deut 22:29) after paying the father (who is dead now because of the genocide) a fine [purchasing her from her father, bc she is property]
Yeah. They work on the estate. The Israelites were commanded not to take foreign wives. Meaning, they are innocent, don’t kill them, but also… don’t sleep with them. Every Israeli king/conqueror who did, some wrath befell them no matter their station (Solomon is a key example, and his foreign wife was some kind of sorceress (implied, not scripture), not a war conquest)
And the translation back to Greek/hebrew of deut scripture utilizes two different words between 25 and 29 for “if someone on your estate sleeps with someone working there, they are to be married. —- forward two lines —— but if someone forcibly rapes someone, put the rapist to death, the girl who was raped is innocent.
the only time the rapist is to be but to death and the girl lives is when she’s gets raped in the country-side and that’s *only* because the speaker says she is presumed to have called for help and no one heard her. it’s a far cry from verse 23 that says to put both of them to death because the woman didn’t scream for help. verse 26 presumes her innocence, but not 23
