Israel is such a safe for jews that they keep jewish people in constant war with their neighbors and routinely oppress orthodox and palestinian jews they really have never been safer
I’m a Zionist. Violence is always wrong. West Bank settlers need to be held accountable. The fascists in the Israeli government need to be held accountable. But Israel exists, destroying it now would be horrid. It’s a safe haven for a vulnerable ethnicity

Frankly I think the arguments in favor of Israel’s continued existence grow slimmer each second. Having said that I do not feel much sympathy for orthodox and ultra Orthodox Jews -sincerely a Jew

And in the year 2026 as the term currently stands, there’s no such thing as a Palestinian Jew. Jews are not a part of the Palestinian national identity

Yes it’s Israel that keeps itself at war with Iran and Lebanon and Yemen. Totally

You’re criticizing the countries that made peace with Israel instead of fighting with them? On a post where your point is how Israel is so aggressive getting into wars with their neighbors?

I do because they arent zionists generally, at least from what I know. But what are your opinions on the orthodox?

I just dislike them as a matter of point of disliking any traditionalist religious group. They stick to themselves refuse to change or accept new things and are deeply ostracizing of anyone that goes against the mold. They’re just as whack as Zionists but in a different way if that makes sense. The only reason many aren’t Zionists isn’t because they have much love for Palestinians but because they believe they do not deserve to return till the Messiah has returned.

Well ive seen orthodox communities in Jerusalem protesting the israeli gov/military calling them nazis and waving palestine flags so surely that has to be something. All the orthodox people I see protesting in the US act similarly but more restrained. If its as simple as you say though thats fucked up

It’s not as simple as they say. By their reasoning given as to why they dislike orthodox, what they really hate is organized religion. “As-a-jew”ing doesn’t make it a valid take

Yes I dislike organized religion but I’m more than willing to tolerate them so long as they aren’t overtly reactionary and traditionalist Orthodox/Ultra-Orthodox/Haredim/Hasidcs whatever you want to call them tend to be exactly that. While their protests against Zionism is noble it doesn’t change the fact that they are fundamentally dogmatic groups that are more than happy to keep with traditions that are ancient and antiquated.

You’re more willing to tolerate them so long as they follow less of their religion

I think conflating Ultra-Orthodox/Orthodox as “more” Jewish than any other form of it like Reform is my first tell that you aren’t worth discussing things with. It’s Judaism the biggest thing is that there isn’t one branch that is more Jewish than the rest. And yes I don’t think it’s controversial to say I don’t support the sects of it that would disapprove of my existence doesn’t really make it appealing

I’d argue that the branch that follows Jewish law is more Jewish in practice. That doesn’t make them more Jewish than them, but they certainly practice their religion to a higher extent

1. Every form of Judaism acknowledges and follows Jewish law some just say it is mandatory others say it is advisory 2. The biggest thing about Judaism is rabbinic discussion which is apart of every form of Judaism not just the ultra orthodox 3. The Torah is not meant to be taken literally as the word of god rather it is written and mediated by humans (imperfect beings) in their historical contexts (imperfect times) and should be viewed as such rather than something that is definitive

If it was meant to be definitive and or binding you wouldn’t have the Talmud which is a compendium of rabbinic discussion on what exactly each part of the Torah means and supports and an acknowledge of the changing circumstances of the Jewish people (from temple Judaism to the diaspora)

That’s not what the Talmud is, your modern twist on Halacha and Judaism does not usurp what Halacha and the Torah is, and I think it’s pretty common sense to say that the Jew that doesn’t eat bacon practices Judaism more than the one who does. Why would the book of laws from God on how to live actually just be optional and changed to be made easier because mmm cheeseburger so yummy? Being Jewish is not Bagels and Lox, we already have a whole book about what it’s really about

Nothing you can say about judaism is worth anything when you make allowances for a secular white ethnostate. Should a christian let a german nazi teach them about the religion?

Israel is the one that consistently violates ceasefire agreements and kills civilians and children.

Also you know that one friend that constantly says “this person wronged me and we are no longer friends but it is not my fault!” At a certain point, the commonality becomes them. Its the same with Israel.

Why should Israel breaking a ceasefire with Palestine mean Yemen, Lebanon, and Iran get to send rockets into Israel?

Incredibly ironic to make this comment given the sheer amount of ceasefire agreements violated by Israel
