What happens in media is that a bill will have a bunch of sections and if it’s rejected it has one thing that’s a big moral controversy and then you can half-truth it like so. But ain’t no way they thumbnail is the asphyxiation dog

Okay a quick Google search, apparently it was because this wasn’t actually banning beastiality, it was decoupling it from the anti-sodomy law, which was ruled unconstitutional but was still on the books, but Republicans didn’t feared that this could lead to it being repealed. So they weren’t necessarily supporting beastiality, though it doesn’t look good on a headline lol

This was in 2018. They were concerned that this bill would weaken or eliminate Louisiana’s unconstitutional ban on sodomy. Anti-sodomy laws were struck down in 2003 by SCOTUS but Louisiana still had theirs on the books, and Republicans really wanted to keep it. One guy who voted no said he wanted additional stipulations for recording or spreading beastiality media tho which is fairer

Ah darn it I was typing up a whole explanation about it and the sodomy law. Yeah the republicans are just super homophobic. So terrible but not for the reason you expected.

The rule with a headline like this is you should usually research why people voted against it because it’s usually not as straightforward as it appears. Still, turns out it was for a terrible reason anyways.
