
I’m deadass. The prose is amateurish, the dialogue has got bricks for feet (and as a result the characterization is anemic in 4/7 of the books), and it’s chock full of slavery apologia and the like from beginning to end. Cressida Cowell, Angie Sage, and Suzanne Collins all have better children’s fantasy in every regard. Brandon Mull, Holly Black and Rick Riordan also all belong in the conversation while we’re at it.
