The best way to run a country is a hybrid of capitalism and socialism. People should be free to start their own private businesses and run them as like. However, healthcare, EMS, and public services should be socialized
Pretty crazy that people are fine with universal access to fire departments but not universal access to healthcare to treat the burns

That’s still capitalism instead of exploiting ur fellow citizen u exploit a person in the global south. The Nordic model is a prime example of this

This is just socialism…

There is literally no such thing, you don’t know what socialism or capitalism actually are. like by definition a hybrid system is impossible.

Absolutely agreed. I think I once read a dystopian where the big thing was you had to pay for fire and police services and I was thinking: wait a minute :0

I think In Denmark most fire departments are privately owned, but the government subcontracts them so it’s not like somebody could go “uncovered”.

What they mean is an economy where some services are socialized by the government and some are operated by private enterprise. But even in a given industry the line might not be so clear if companies are jointly owned or the state exercises control in some other way.

yeah that’s not what socialism is. socialism is an economic system where the workers control the means of production. the word you’re looking for is social democracy

I mean state ownership is one path you can take to reach socialism. I don’t want to get bogged down in the definitions though because everyone seems to have their own definition.

that requires a state that actually is controlled by the workers. i reject the idea that any government control is inherently socialist

how do the nordic countries specifically exploit they global south… they basically were involved in imperialism

Scandinavia doesn’t do very much trade with the global South, but there’s nothing to suggests the trade they do conduct is “unfair”. This is one of those leftist talking points that just defies any economic logic or empirical data.

This is a debate over minor semantics and is inherently kinda silly
