Since Buckley v. Valeo deregulated lobbying in 1978, & exponentially since Citizens United deemed corps “people” in 2010, our govt doesn’t work for us; instead they work to divide us on social issues so we won’t see the charade & demand more. Just 4 meatpacking conglomerates process >90% of the meat in the US. Not surprisingly, we’re figuring out the same cons to monopolization of markets our ancestors did – prices mysteriously go up while both quality and quantity go down (and profits soar) 🤔
112 years ago, William Howard Taft and the SCOTUS broke up Standard Oil, the American Sugar Refiners, and the American Tobacco Co. into *dozens* of competitors when they got too fat and greeedy; alleging that “it’s not even capitalism if there’s not competition.” Today, just 10 companies deliver our entire grocery store. Just 4 airlines run nearly every domestic flight. The 34 competitors they broke Standard Oil into have consolidated back down to just 4. Where’s our govt? Bickering abt 🐄💩
