Yes but I think we should generally focus on poorer communities which would disproportionately help black Americans

The same people who paid for reparations to Japanese Americans

All of them, or only people (of any background) who can demonstrate lineage from forcibly-migrated ancestors?

Native Americans deserve a lot more and get way less welfare from the government than blacks do

More impactful and less punitive reparations would be in the form of investments into predominantly-black neighborhoods. Giving cash payouts based on the color of someone’s skin for a crime committed against their great great grandparents is ridiculous.

What’s a reparation going to do? “Here’s $100 because your great grandparents were slaves” just quit profiling people of color and treat everyone equally

Who is paying for it

We could structure it exactly like the Japanese reparations, any surviving person who was a slave gets $20k

They would be owed way more than that but ok

Why do white people who know nothing about black peoples immediately say this. Let me guess you’re a white liberal woman who had a couple of white presenting black gfs and that’s it you wear glasses and like your morning coffee and Trader Joe’s bag

You brought up the Japanese reparations, I took that and adjusted for inflation and then did the math for paying that out to the entire working class like #5 mentioned. What part about maga makes you think they can read let alone do simple math

You think 70k is enough for over 200 years of discrimination and oppression vs less than 10 years in an internment camp? Jfc this is what I mean with the maga argument style it’s everything false equivalency bc you the thought process is too dense to see and understand nuance

reparations are to repair the profound systemic damage enacted from slavery that is not alleviated simply through the passage of time so regardless of how long ago it was if you do nothing to correct it’s effects the effects will still be there

This response is really convincing me of your well-thought-out, feasible, solution for what you deem appropriate for reparations.

You cannot just pay off years of wrong doing and torture. If you paid a reparation back then “hey sorry I made you work with no pay, live outside with barely enough food and sold your entire family to different people around the US, but here’s $100” what do you think they would say? You build upon the past, fix the race gap, provide and show equality and eliminate national prejudice, bring equal and fair opportunity’s to everyone. Fixing the system is a lot more effective then just paying it off

yeah that’s exactly what reparations are i think people wrongly assume it just means handing out checks but no it’s called reparations because REPAIR is the point

I agree in your sense a reparation should be given, in a monetary sense it just will not cut it

Great. And what is your idea of acceptable reparations for black people? You keep negating everything being posted, including some attempts at the delicacy of the subject, but you are not offering any solutions yourself.

But we didn’t all start off on equal playing fields when we got here laws and legislation left certain groups behind and that was financially remedied as in the case with Japanese Americans. Whereas black Americans were redlined enslaved not treated as human treated as property and many predominately low income black communities suffer from getting the funding they need
