interaction based algorithms are stupid as fuck i shouldn’t get MORE neonazi posts when i block a neonazi account because the algorithm sees blocking an account the same as following, liking, or sharing

I agree with the sentiment but generally speaking “blocking” an account would be seen as a negative interaction that would disincentivize more neonazi content. For example, X just open sourced their recommendation algorithm and blocking a creator is roughly equal in weight to -62 likes on that post

I like the idea that if you have an algorithm which selectively feeds posts to users, you should be seen as a publisher, and have a higher standard of regulation than just a media sharing platform.

i block zionist and white supremacist far right accounts almost every single day on instagram. it is my only interaction with those posts and accounts. rather than not promoting that content, i have to block more and more every single day. just in the last 20 minutes ive blocked over 20 accounts back to back and instagram keeps promoting them to me

I don’t want to tell you what you’re doing because obviously I don’t know, but it’s more likely that Instagram is determining that right wing content gets your attention, gets you to view the comments or profile, etc. If you wanted to get that content off your timeline you’re probably better off just scrolling past it and engaging with the content you like better. Which I agree is stupid but it’s not because the algorithm treats blocking a creator as a positive interaction like a follow or like
