Zohran mamdani is the best Indian representation we’ve had in politics for so long 💔💔💔 So tired of the Nikki Haleys and the Vivek ramaswamys. Kamala was much better but still not that great

Kamala was absolutely the worst representation any race could’ve asked for

He’s of Indian ethnicity. Many Indians were born in Africa. I have relatives who were born in Tanzania and Malawi

Fair, he’s Indian-Ugandan but frankly I wouldn’t say he or Kamala are really “Indian representation”, Kamala maybe but Zhoran’s been very good about avoiding identity politics and sticking to policy and attacking the actions (or lack of actions) of other mayoral candidates. I like his campaign, hopefully when I’m moved to NYC in Jan. he’ll be in office.

Yeah I know. Obviously he’s not of Indian nationality because he’s running for office in America 😭

Fun fact, there are dual citizens in government but they are not forced to disclose that from what I can find, so long as they also hold US citizenship. The order of Malta springs to mind, along with dual Israeli-US citizens.

Yeah, I didn’t know his ethnicity tbh just where he was from, and I think that’s kind of my point. He doesn’t make a big deal about it, he’s running as a New Yorker for New Yorkers. He’s focused on the issues at home, not making deals with Türkiye and Israel.

Like he is leading with policy and is the best candidate based on merit, but he absolutely is vocal about being Indian

There are presidents who are literally dual citizen members of the sovereign order of Malta, and as mentioned I don’t yet live in NYC so I likely wouldn’t have seen any ads in Hindi. He’s not as vocal about his ethnicity as many other candidates, and definitely nowhere on the level of the two mentioned in the first post in terms of identity politics. He’s the only candidate who refuses to bow to foreign interests.

All of that is true except for him not being vocal about his identity. Speaking as someone who’s been in NYC for nearly a decade atp he’s absolutely making his identity part of it, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. He’s done Ramadan related ads, been very vocal about being Desi, and yes, at the same time has shown the most dedication to his local and national community out of the candidates. The two are not mutually exclusive. Idk what this is about dual citizenship because i didn’t say that

Good to know, I’ll go take a look at those ads a little later since they’re clearly in my blind spot, but yeah dude’s been doing an amazing job, and he’s played the game impeccably, turning attacks around into bombshell statements.
