So, I think we know the phenomenon where a bad person learns therapy speak and then weaponizes it (ex calls everyone a manipulator) I think there’s something similar with people who will use social justice language to try to justify their bad behavior

I think I’ve notice this the most among online, women-dominated spaces. You have people who will just be shitty and rude to men and then say it’s “reparations.” Or they will try to use institutional misogyny to justify sexist language/misandry. Often times it can also be very puritanical.

I think the worst example of this is when transphobic cis women try to weaponize this stuff against trans women. Accusing trans women of being agents of misogyny or whatever just because of their birth sex. And it often gets very bioessentialist. Similar to those girls who go “I’d never have a male child” because they essentially now think male means bad.

Or the ones that go, “can’t we help normal women first before them?”

I think there’s a somewhat related phenomenon where people primarily from the urban north try to villainize everyone from the south because of politics or racism. They adopt classist views but try to justify it with “well there’s a bunch of bigots there”

Yeah. I think a lot of people just want to find ways to justify their own bigotry or like create an exclusionary clique. And people have managed to twist ideas meant for healing into something to cause harm.

This 100%!! A lot of southern states like Texas aren’t even conservative majority, it’s just gerrymandered to hell

I agree with this wholeheartedly tbh. Specifically cause I’m a trans woman so I have some level of personal experience with that example. No ones ever said that directly to my face but I’ve caught the vibes of it before as well as seeing people talk about it more explicitly online. I HATE the “I’m a misandrist” shit cause it literally always boils down to bioessencialist which they then direct backhandedly at me just cause I have a dick. Even though I’m not a man. I hate it so fuckin much

Like yea lots of men suck but 1. Generalizations across demographic groups are always bad cause it’s blaming people for their identities rather than their actions. And 2. It very often just leads to shit like this where it hits entirely unrelated people because of how indiscriminately they throw insults and shame. Like no men are not inherently evil. And if you believe that, then what does that say about your thoughts towards me? You say it’s cause of the way they were raised?

Well newsflash that is literally a massively common transphobic argument that you’ve used accidentally. Like it just is impossible to separate. Judge people based on their actions. It’s not hard. Being scared of men is one thing but *hatred* of a demographic as a whole is never justified

I’m a cis guy and I feel like there’s also the added on effect of this like looping back to worsen the generational transmission of misogyny. Like most of the time if you ask a podcast bro why they are “against feminism” they will cite something along these lines. Often times that’s just propaganda they heard, but when they encounter genuine misandry under the guise of feminism it gets harder to convince them that feminism is actually just shout equality.
