In fact the army once had a regulation REQUIRING vehicles be named after them, and it stuck around

I was actually just reading up on the Lakota ceremonially blessing a new helicopter. I guess it’s kind of categorically different when the military is doing it for aircraft vs when companies are doing it with cars. One is a product, the other is a weapon aligned with a traditional warrior culture with heavy modern involvement in the military.

Well don’t forget that Jeep was originally an exclusive supplier of military vehicles so they e kept that naming tradition
