Like 55 senators voted yes to move forward. All republicans, one independent, and two democrats and it failed. Something like that

I blame the voters who fall for this bullshit every 12 months

Well no. It takes 60 votes in the senate to invoke cloture and end debate.

Why does it matter if it was or wasn’t?😂 it’s a gov shutdown, they happen every now and then, not really that big of a deal

Republicans literally didn’t show up to the house today to vote budget proposals

Taking away people’s rights (including healthcare), terrorizing and illegally detaining immigrants (particularly many who are here legally and are going about it the perfectly right way), and trying to desecrate free speech are not things any conscionable human can reason with.

I have healthcare, I’m here legally so I don’t have any problems with immigration, and my free speech as not been impacted at all. Only during Biden when all republican voices were silenced. So no idea what you’re talking about

Tell that to the thousands of people who have lost access to rural hospitals, or the people here legally who showed up for a court hearing just to have their green cards revoked for no reason, or any nighttime TV host who dares to criticize Trump.

(adding onto that second part, to then have those people be immediately detained illegally by ICE)

Simply put, just be sure it doesn’t affect you doesn’t mean it isn’t happening to other people or that it couldn’t impact any of us. Nobody was silenced for political reasons because they disagreed with Biden the way Trump wants to silence any dissent of him.

Let’s not forget that last time a shutdown was imminent (March) Dems gave Republicans votes so they could pass a continuing resolution in both the house and the senate. You know what happened not even a week later? Republicans used a bypass measure to pull funding from that CR for things they didn’t like, a process that hadn’t been used since the 90s. It’s not dems responsibility to bail yall out again. Yall went back on your word in March, you’d do it again. Get the votes yourself.
