The year was 1890. Women were often shunned from academic and medical fields at the time. They might have just been a cis woman pretending to be male to get basic freedoms and respect.

it’s part of the complete evaluation. the evaluation includes: medical history, physical exam, blood or skin test, chest radiography, and bacteriologic examination

it is fairly well documented that hart was indeed trans and lived out his life as man until he passed away in the 60s. idk why y’all are desperately trying to discredit this when the entire point is that trans people have always existed. yes there were women who presented as men to gain equal access to things like academia, work force, and military service but hart had always been a man.
