I see this as a completely unforgivable act. This was during the 6 day war. They gunned down our sailors as they were fleeing the sinking ship. They knew it was us. LBJ had the chance to completely change the course of Middle East history by at least fucking condemning the act. But nope. Completely crushing it under the rug.
I see your reasoning, but I’m not so sure that’d be the case. EG: the Bush family has been involved in politics since the business plot, when they tried to use the military to overthrow FDR and install a fascist government aligned with nazi germany. I think they’d still be relevant, although you’re right there’s a good chance they don’t win
