As a liberal, here are some things I wish leftists would come to terms with. 1.) You are politically ineffective and are therefore irrelevant 2.) You are equivalent to a fascist or a conservative to liberals with your critiques. 3.) Go win an election.

1) Politically irrelevant? How about Mamdani? AOC? Sanders? 2) fascism is not when you criticize liberals. Fascism is when you do far right shit 3) Again, I can point to so many examples. The most recent being Mamdani

2 is not a communication issue. They’re illiberal.

Where’d you get that idea from? Wasn’t in any classical liberalism books I’ve read

The fact that you were a fan at all shows you don’t really have a leg to stand on here.

No longer shitting my pants at the age of 22 isn’t so much growth as it is about begging the question…why were you shitting your pants in the first place?

Idk what to tell you, you just gotta find a way to let go of all the hate in your heart

You pointed out 2 out of 535 and that’s just in congress. Maybe the trend will change but you guys are not politically effective.

All 3 of them ran under the Democratic Party though? If they weren’t Democrats, why wouldn’t they run third party.

Idk if you’ve noticed, but all the people I listed have been fucked over by the DNC multiple times. They’re fighting an uphill battle not just against conservatives, but against liberals too Like Jeffries and Schumer haven’t even endorsed the guy who won the democratic primary for mayor of NYC when BOTH OF THEM ARE FROM NY

They’re democratic socialist that’s the difference it’s not a party difference (except for sanders in some cases) it’s an ideological difference.

Yeah they can endorse whoever they want I agree it’s cringe, but do you know what having an uphill battle means? It’s another way of saying you aren’t politically effective you can cope over it if you want.

They could easily run under any name besides the Democratic one if they were so opposed to liberalism though, no? De La Cruz ran under the PSL and not the Democratic Party. There are some points I understand what OP is saying and others I disagree with.

Uphill battle just means there are a lot of odds against you, not that you can’t get shit done

Anonymous replying to -> #4 11w

Yeah they could I don’t think they’re opposed to liberalism other than private property stuff if I had to guess. I think OP is referring more to authoritarian left people rather than sanders or whatever but they could clarify. I think not being associated with a party kinda kills you especially on federal level elections.

Well not when you’re using the “up hill battle” to justify not getting shit done. If you got shit done you wouldn’t need the justification.

To me, I think that’s OPs point though. It’s not like Democrats or Republicans were handed their bases. They had to work for them. If leftists want to be taken seriously, they either have to compromise with Democrats or start coalition building for a national party.

I think third party is dumb bc whatever wing splits up will never win a presidential election again. Meaning they’ll also not get Supreme Court seats, among other things. If you’re a democratic socialist just vote democrat.

I’m not using it as an excuse, I’m using it as an explanation as to why it is harder for leftist policy to get through. There is a difference

Then that’s a good explanation for why they aren’t politically effective.

It’s very hard to be politically effective when basically both parties are against you. Do you think that the corporate milquetoast dems want people in there who actually challenge their power? No, they’re happy with their insider trading

As I said, you either compromise or you fight for your 3rd party.

I’m not going to compromise on the fact healthcare is a human right. Infiltrating the Democratic Party and radically transforming it is the best way to go about it

Idk why we keep changing the goal post from are they politically effective to is it hard for them? I just don’t think Americans have this huge leftist appetite that everyone acts like they have.

Anonymous replying to -> #2 11w

You realize dems have consistently pushed for universal healthcare even the super moderate bill Clinton did idk why we’re acting like that isn’t a democrat policy. The main policy disagreements leftist have is foreign policy and moderate dems are capitalist and that’s about it.
