Having the largest population means numbers will be inflated. China also defines poverty as people who make less than $1.9 dollars a day. Not exactly a hard standard to meet. The Chinese also lack a lot of the freedoms that we Americans have. Including protected speech which is very important.

That fair. I misread my stuff. But it’s still not much better. China’s upper-middle income line is $6.85/day. That’s still easy to make. And technically our minimum wage has increased drastically over the years too. Inflation masks a lot of issues. And the Chinese are no strangers to inflation.

Also I went to high school with many Chinese international students, most of whom were not members of the elite but had instead obtained merit scholarships. Even after getting a taste of American life, they all strongly preferred the Chinese model. I know because I speak Mandarin and have talked to them about it. They would easily be able to afford an apt in a tier 1 Chinese city, a place in fucking upstate New York was far more expensive

War can happen for many different reasons. Territorial disputes, or ideological issues. Political violence = using force for politics outside structured war. War = organized combat between states or large factions. So WW2 was war, not political violence in the sense I’m arguing about. That’s why your example doesn’t refute my point.
