they’ve never been against “big government”. quite the opposite, actually. conservatism is, at it’s core, about blind obedience to an authority figure. it’s why conservative parents still believe in spanking your children or honoring your ancestors. it’s why they rank well with christians, too. conservatism is, above all else, about blindly obeying the rules without considering WHY those rules are in place in the first place at all.
