I finally got a response back from Clearview AI (law enforcement facial recognition database) for my de-index, delete, and access request for my face. It was unnerving to say the least.
Did they actually do it or did they say they don’t need to?

They said they actually did do it, but who knows if they’re lying or not. It’s worth doing anyways, you only need to submit another picture of your face. No name or other identifiable info necessary (use a burner email).

Oh that’s actually surprising. I would’ve assumed they’d say you don’t have any expectation of privacy in public or something

My state has data privacy laws that require them to do so. I don’t know what state you live in, but Illinois has the most comprehensive privacy laws. You don’t need to submit an ID with any addresses either, just a clear pic of your face.

I’m in DE, so we’re not as strict as IL or CA unfortunately. We followed the VA/CO model. I think I can still submit a request but they might not respond the same way. I think you’re the only state with BIPA (which needs to be adopted nationally btw)

That’s a shame. Well, it’s still worth doing, and you don’t need to submit a name, address, or proof of residence in any particular state. Just select which state you live in and they’ll have to abide by those laws.
