I got into Hasan around 2020 as I learned more about socialism and what it actually is. Nowadays, I’m still a socialist, but I don’t watch Hasan’s political content, but I listen to his Fear& podcast, where he’s just a guy. I honestly don’t get the hate.

I was fine with him when he was just reporting the news but he grandstands while living in a million dollar mansion grifting to the left and it gets on my nerves

People don’t like Hasan piker because he wears Cartier and Gucci, drives a Porsche taycan turbo, and lives in the Hollywood hills while insisting wealth is the problem despite living the most privileged existence one could possibly imagine. On top of that he’s just incredibly fucking obnoxious.

I mean, I get that, socialist in a mansion kinda goes against his whole schtick, but I don’t really care. He earned his money without exploiting people’s labor, so also sticking to his schtick. It all just felt like a Fox News driven nothing burger to me

The right did the same to attack Bernie Sanders for being a millionaire when most of his money came from writing books

I mean he kinda has exploited people’s labor since most of his subs come from Amazon prime twitch subscriptions, which fund Amazon which absolutely does exploit labor power

His house is worth like 2-3x the average LA house 😭

So you have to be poor to advocate for socialism?

No lmao, but you shouldn’t be spending the average American’s salary on your wardrobe… many because it’s just a tacky thing to do when you’re saying that wealth is the problem

The wealth he’s talking about is orders of magnitude larger

yeah, the consumerism I oppose, although I do think there is nuance here, he spends lavishly which I do oppose but is an individual consumer choice at the end of the day, he still critiques structural economic power at the end of the day which is more important to me at the end of the day

Tbf where else is he supposed to stream? There isn’t really a streaming website that isn’t connected to global capitalism and would have the same concerns surrounding revenue sharing

Yeah well then he gets most of his money from Amazon prime subscriptions which is a very exploitative company

Yeah, to me tho the argument simply goes to where else is he supposed to stream? There isn’t really like an anti-capitalist streaming hub on the Internet, it merely feels like a pick your poison so you can be heard type of situation

Well he could move to a site that gives less money to the company itself (twitch’s split is 70% twitch / 30% streamer), like YouTube which has a better split, or advocate for a more equitable revenue split for creators and/or against twitch being bought by amazon

Yeah they’re all bad, but there are better options, and ones that even just don’t exploit their creators as much as twitch does
