It’s almost like right wing ideology is poisoning the entire world because social media algorithms promote and incentivize outrage regardless of truth.

its more nuanced than that they are angry at remote workers who can price locals out due to paying in dollars/euros driving up the cost of living without contributing to the local economy

Nothing really. Most of the Americans in Europeans migrating to Mexico or digital nomads driving up the price of regular housing and amenities will not actually contributing to local economies since they mostly work remotely.

If you were trying to make some sort of tongue in cheek comparison into Mexican or Latino immigrants to the US then you’re comparing apples to oranges

Yeah not comparing it to legal latino immigrants, just the protests and opposition here. The president there was calling the protests xenophobic

Eh, I don’t think it’s really xenophobic at all, especially when there’s an actual negative impact on the economy.

Mk so it’s not xenophobic if someone interprets it being bad for the country. Interesting

So are these protests unjust and pointless

They’re most likely overblown both in reasoning and in coverage. But I can’t make any solid judgements, because I don’t care enough to look into it that deeply.

Xenophobia is based on the unwarranted, fear or criticism of foreigners or anything foreign. What’s xenophobic is Kristi Noem claiming that a detained undocumented immigrant was eating himself. It’s not xenophobic to point out that privileged rich westerners are driving up the costs of living for average people.

It’s honestly much more of a criticism of gentrification more than anything else than just purely looking at it from an immigration lens.
