I’m about to graduate with a degree in secondary social studies education. I knew I wasn’t not going to get paid well, I did not expect the DOE secretary to not know basic multiplication, how to say AI, or what the DOE even does, let alone bear witness to how catastrophic and dangerous the administration is acting. No amount of passion or persistence removes the concern I have for the quality, integrity, and structure of our government and institutions. Time to become a hot mechanic I think 🥸

I’m lucky (and smart) enough to feel there’s always going to be something I can do, but it’s angering and scary to watch the pillars fall. Even if I decided to gear towards working towards archival work or journalism, those are being defunded. It’s everywhere. My friends in STEM are losing access to opportunities or funding for thesis work, museums are being shut down, universities defunded, jobs cut, etc.

In this fight together 🙂‍↕️🫂 what are you studying? Even the IMLS cuts have been huge for the rural area I go to school in. I believe in learning, curiosity, and creativity, and I’m deeply disheartened and disturbed by the amount of action there is against the lives and opportunities of workers, children, and students. It would be harder for me to not care than it would be for me to act on the fact that I do

I have grown up with STEM parents and the idea that hard science corresponds with republicanism is insane to me😭😭 Scientists want to search for truth with no hard singular answer. Republican truth is working backwards with a predetermined, set in stone hypothesis.
