I don’t understand why, as Americans, we have to respect the cultures of the countries we travel to, but the immigrants from said countries bring their cultures here and expect us to start following them.

There are plenty of things that tourists do, in general, that might be impolite, annoying, or potentially offensive. No tourists expect you do adhere to their culture. It’s a matter of diffusion, and it’s a global phenomenon. Either way, celebrating holidays native to a country or region are usually limited to those countries unless they’ve been marketed or promoted by a company, religion, etc. Americans love to party
