Necessary is a funny word, arguably sure, but I reckon it’s inherently flawed understandings within American politics because we’re inherently imperfect beings but we operate and act anyhow. The bibble is all music, no noise, and no matter how many times you read it you won’t get to the bottom of it
See that’s what I argued, however because of how many people base their views around it and how intertwined it is in our society, it would be logical for people to have a basic knowledge of it to see where some are coming from. Though religion and politics should be seperate, they aren’t that much
I’d also reckon you’d be more understanding presupposed understandings of the Bible, as opposed to the Bible itself. Understanding the history of theological thought is what I think is more necessary to understand the trajectories of western politics, and by association American politics 🤔
I wasn’t saying you have to believe a word of the Bible, I was just saying that since a large force of voters use the Bible and religion in political decisions, it could be seen as reasonable to have a basic level of knowledge pertaining to it. Politics is supposed to be varied, but the truth is that the Bible plays a large part unfortunately
