Well you’d be right. Wikileaks confirmed that Hillary Clinton and John Podesta engaged in a “Pied Piper” strategy to promote more extremist Republican primary candidates (including Trump!) hoping that they’d be easier to beat in general elections

Tbh independent and third party candidates would have a MUCH better time trying to take over the country at the local level. That’s literally what alt-right freaks did in red states. Bernie has held his seat for who knows how fucking long and has ran as an independent every time.
