I think Conservative Islam is as much a threat to secular democracy as the Southern Baptist Nationalists and it makes no sense why other liberals don’t see how similar those two groups are

I mean, group like the Taliban and Al-Qaeda have engaged in armed resistance. That’s a big diff in between South Baptists and Islam Fundies.

can you give me a specific protest in michigan? and also did you mean conservative as in “right wing” muslims, or conservative as in devout?

i say this all to say that i think this is a bit of a false equivalency. christian nationalism operates from a position of majority power, shaping u.s. law and institutions directly, while muslim communities in secular democracies are minorities without comparable political leverage. one is a hegemonic project actively eroding secular norms; the other is often invoked through securitized framings rather than institutional reality.

even when conservative religious groups from different traditions temporarily align on issues like opposing lgbtq rights or book bans, the underlying dynamics remain asymmetrical. christian nationalism represents a majority movement with deep institutional power, while muslim communities in western democracies lack that leverage. moments of convergence shouldn’t be mistaken for equivalent threats to secular democracy, it just obscures power dynamics and fuels stereotypes.
