I’m sorry but I’m gonna have to disagree. Horses are being culled in Australia and there’s a lot of support for it the only issue is the way the cull is being done. In the US, most of the data stating that horses are over grazing and have extreme negatives are places where the horses are fenced in and aren’t able to move into new areas. These areas are fenced off for cattle. When the horses are removed they put just as many cattle out there on lands that are already over grazed.
The horses have their negatives and they have their benefits but in the US, sending horses on public BLM lands is illegal…period. I was wrong it wasn’t the Wild Horses Annie Act it’s the Free Roaming Horses and Burros Act that makes it illegal for them to be sent to slaughter. There’s darts that prevent mares from going into heat and getting pregnant. We can control populations through lowering the birth rates, but the BLM prefers to remove the horses for cattle. I’m not against removal because-
Mustangs are good riding/working horses and can make great pets. So if we dart and remove some we can control those populations. But ppl are not against the slaughter of horses in general. In Europe, Asia, Mexico, and Canada the slaughter and consumption of horses is normal and accepted because they raise horses specifically for human consumption and in Australia they slaughter horses for dog food. The feral horses are federally protected that’s where the issue with them being killed is
I mean…the pythons are pets and many ppl have issues with them being killed and would prefer they just be removed. The horses aren’t actively lowering the populations of native species like the pythons are. The pythons eat native mammals like deer, raccoons, and possums and are actively eating and competing with Floridian alligators. The horses are over grazing in some areas because ppl fenced them in. Horses have their benefits out west like digging wells and breaking ice during the winter
