I’m not sure how specifying that they’re guns that you own changes anything but less guns means less shootings, really not more complicated than that. Interactions that elsewhere would be a physical altercation or yelling match often turn deadly in a country where everybody is armed.
A country with fewer guns is a country that is safer for our kids, teachers, police officers, parade goers…etc. I know everyone thinks they’re responsible enough for gun ownership just like they think they’re responsible enough to commute to work at 120mph. Still, people make mistakes and limiting this huge risk (in my opinion) is far worth the trade off since they don’t really make us safer anyway
I just don’t think that’s true. Nothing against you personally but just like people assume there’s no risk in driving fast if you’re a good driver, it’s also wrong to assume there’s no risk associated with your gun just because you’re careful. What if a kid came across it while you had it out of the safe? What if you yourself had a suicidal episode? Any number of things could make that situation deadly
Driving makes me more likely to die in a car crash. Swimming at the lake with friends makes me more likely to drown. Really anything we actively do increases our risk of dying from it. That’s exactly why I’m a big believer in taking proper safety precautions, and advocating for others to do the same
