My personal take for the out of tow era: I’ve lived in NYC since 2018. Crime is down but cost of living wise it’s the worst it’s ever been. Worse than Covid. People can barely afford groceries and restaurants are going under because people can’t afford to eat out. Not to mention thanks to this administration’s policies, tourism is down and not enough revenue is coming in while the prices are still going up. A lot of this stems from the awful policies implemented by Andrew Cuomo and Eric Adams.

I’m not from the city but from New York so it does change state funding and taxes going into the state budget.

This is a surprising take from you, probably because you are from nyc right? And so you’re probs super oversaturated even more than the rest of us. This race matters nationally and everyone has an opinion on it because this is the pendulum getting ready to knock back into our favor. Mamdani is representative of what left leaning people all over America want to see more of, he energizes and excites. We *want* people to be talking about him and be opinionated on him. That’s a good thing.

Hey man I get why it’s such a popular thing and why it’s gained all this traction, sometimes it just feels like people are roleplaying as experts on NYC or even residents of it just to make a point about their ideals at large. I It feels like people don’t know what they’re saying a lot of the time. Especially people outside NY who are advocating for Cuomo to take over, just because the name “Mamdani” scares them.

They didn’t give a shit when he was governor and putting together healthy old folks and sick old folks in nursing homes during COVID. I don’t know, I’m not trying to be exclusive or anything, it just feels like people are all of a sudden pretending to care about the city when really they’re concerned with things like what you just said. You’re allowed to talk about the national implications of course, it just feels weird to me when people pretend to make it about NYC when it’s not.

Mamdani won the primary because he’s young and is a legitimate New Yorker who takes the subway and buys groceries and has dealt with real problems of the city. He also has plans to tackle those problems. Whether his ideas are good or bad for the city remains to be seen. But Andrew Cuomo running for mayor after all he did for the state and city is a huge fucking joke. New Yorkers need change and they feel Mamdani is the best route for that.
