I think most of these identity politics philosophies are just fueled by the fact the only leaders we have had straight (mostly white) men as leaders and the status quo sucks. Granted a good leader is a good leader but a lot of people usually think a member of there group are going to help their group the most.

That’s fair, and I get where they’re coming from on it. I’m trans personally but I know that it doesn’t really matter to me about getting a trans President or not, cool bonus points ig but I’d be more focused on what they actually want to do for trans people not whether they are one. I’d take the cishet white male Bernie Sanders over Nikki Haley for example, etc
