Is the popular vote really just based on states either voting majority red or majority blue then competing to see if there’s more blue or red states? Bc if so, it’s no wonder dems lost since most dems huddle in a few select blue states

No the popular vote is just a total tally of votes, its not limited by state boundaries at all. If 12 million people voted for candidate A, majority in 3 states, and 11 million voted for candidate B with a majority in 7 states, candidate A would win

For President, no… Each state has electors equal to senators + house members. (Exception for DC) So California does have more power, BUT they have a lot less proportionately. In fact, 1 Wyoming voter is worth 4+ times as more as a California voter

But of course, it doesn’t matter anyways for presidential elections because California and Wyoming aren’t swing states. So your vote is functionally meaningless unless you’re in a swing state (at least in terms of presidential elections)
